Hi! This is Andrea from Cooking with a Wallflower, and I’m back this month on Ask Anna to share with you a brand new mocktail perfect for Dry January.

Apple Cider Lime Soda Mocktail

So many things have been happening lately. Our days have been filled with prepping for the arrival of our baby boy. It’s exciting but also overwhelming as we try to navigate this new part of our lives. Plus, trying to recuperate from the holidays. So much has been going on that we’ve lost track of time, and now a new year is already here!

Apple Cider Lime Soda

I’ve been working on some new mocktails so today I want to share this apple cider lime soda. It’s simple, it’s delicious, and it’s perfect year round, or for Dry January. I mean, how can you resist? Just the warm flavors of apple cider, the hint of citrus, the bubbliness of the club soda makes this drink perfect for cold January evenings.

I like to top the drink with mint leaves and a cinnamon stick. Other options are star anise and lime wedges. Just for a little bit more festivity. While this version is made to serve one, you can easily scale the recipe up to share with others.

Apple Cider Lime Soda

To make this drink, add apple cider to a glass, add fresh squeezed lime juice. Add crushed ice to the drink. Top with club soda. Garnish with star anise, cinnamon sticks, mint leaves, or lime wedges. Serve the apple cider lime soda immediately cold.

Enjoy!

Blood Orange Mimosas

Hi! This is Andrea from Cooking with a Wallflower, and I’m back this month on Ask Anna to share with you a brand new recipe, a bright and fun, blood orange mimosa.

I hope that you guys have been staying dry these past few months. We’ve had pretty relentless rain storms since the beginning of the year. And while it’s amazing that the rain is helping us out of years long droughts and also filling water reservoirs, it’s not very fun being stuck in the rain while trying to get to work in the morning. Here’s to staying dry and enjoying all the spring wildflowers that have sprouted all over from the rain.

Blood Orange Mimosas

Citrus season is at its height during the winter months and one of my favorite citruses is blood oranges. It’s sweet, it’s tangy, and that dark bright red color adds so much festiveness to your drinks. So naturally, I want to make cocktails with blood oranges while it’s still available. Do you have a favorite citrus?

Blood orange mimosas are super simple to make. I’m obsessed with mimosas because they pair perfectly with brunch but they don’t require a lot of work. So if you have family and friends over, all you need is equal parts juice and champagne. You can easily scale this drink to serve more people. And for those who want a non-alcoholic version, you can substitute the champagne with either club soda or ginger beer. I personally prefer the ginger beet.

Blood Orange Mimosas

In a tall glass or champagne flute, add blood orange juice and top with champagne. Add crushed ice. Serve these blood orange mimosas immediately cold.

Enjoy!

Apple Cider Bourbon Mule

Hi! This is Andrea from Cooking with a Wallflower, and I’m back on Ask Anna to share with you a fall inspired recipe just in time for the holidays.

So much has happened since I was last on here. Back in October, I got married at a bed and breakfast in Livermore wine country. We had spent the last six months planning all the details so it’s a relief that we no longer have to do that. Two days after our wedding, my husband and I went on our honeymoon. We spent two weeks exploring Singapore and Bali. Everything from art and culture to food was amazing.

Coming home, going back to work, and adjusting back to routine had been difficult after all our adventures. Lol

Luckily for us, the holidays are just around the corner. So there’s still plenty of things to look forward to.

With just Thanksgiving mere weeks away, I’m already trying to plan our meal. From appetizers to desserts to drinks, I like to know ahead of time what we’ll be eating. That way, we could shop early and not deal with the crowds as it gets closer to the day.

This year, Thanksgiving will look a little different. It’s the first year we’re combining our family. And I’m kind of stressing out about what to serve or how to host.

But definitely, a fall inspired cocktail is what we need to start the festivities.

Apple Cider Bourbon Mule

My husband’s favorite alcohol is bourbon. My favorite drink is a Moscow mule. So I thought I’d combine our two favorites to make a fall inspired drink.

I love that the apple cider has all the fall vibes. A little bit of bourbon whiskey. A pour of apple cider and ginger beer. A splash of lemon juice. You can have an amazing cocktail in just minutes. Plus, as always, you can adjust the alcohol and sweetness to taste.

Apple Cider Bourbon Mule

In a medium glass, add bourbon and apple cider. Add lemon juice and crushed ice. Then top with ginger beer.

You can serve the apple cider bourbon mule in a glass or in a copper cup. Since I don’t own a copper cup, I just use one of our glasses to serve.

Enjoy!

Vietnamese Style Iced Matcha Coffee

Hi! This is Andrea from Cooking with a Wallflower, and this month, I’m back to share with you a brand new recipe.

This past month has been so busy for me. I feel like I’ve been all over the place trying to get things done. And since I’ve been running on less sleep than usual, I really need a pick me up to keep me going throughout the day.

Vietnamese Style Iced Matcha Coffee

Have you had Vietnamese iced coffee before? It’s coffee ground brewed with hot water through a filter coffee press called a phin filter. It’s pretty simple to use and produces your coffee very quickly. However, if you don’t have one, you can just brew a cup of strong coffee however you normally brew coffee. Whisk matcha powder and condensed milk together. Mix the matcha condensed milk with the coffee and pour it over a tall glass filled with ice.

The combination of matcha and strong brewed coffee is perfect for when you need a pick me up. And if you’ve never sweetened your coffee with condensed milk, it’s just slightly sweet and you can add more if you like.

Vietnamese Style Iced Matcha Coffee

To make this Vietnamese style Iced Matcha Coffee, add two tablespoons of ground coffee into the phin filter. Place the phin filter over a glass. Pour half of hot boiling water over the coffee grounds to allow it to bloom. Then pour the rest of the boiling water into the phin filter. Allow the coffee to drip for about 5 minutes. Alternatively, you can just use about a cup of hot strongly brewed coffee if you don’t have a phin filter.

Vietnamese Style Iced Matcha Coffee

In a small bowl, whisk together matcha powder and condensed milk until the matcha powder is completely incorporated.

Vietnamese Style Iced Matcha Coffee

Pour the condensed milk into the bottom of a tall glass. Then fill the glass with ice.

Once the coffee finishes dripping, remove the phin filter and discard the coffee grounds. Pour the hot coffee over the ice.

Mix the coffee with the matcha condensed milk until well incorporated.

Serve the Vietnamese style iced matcha coffee immediately.

Enjoy!

Soy milk mixed with hojicha, then lightly sweetened. This iced hojicha latte is simple, delicious, and perfect for warm summer days.

Hi! This is Andrea from Cooking with a Wallflower, and I’m back this month on Ask Anna to share with you another new recipe. This time it’s this iced hojicha latte.

It’s been such a busy month for me. With a wedding to plan, birthdays to celebrate, and baby showers to attend, I feel my weekends have been packed to the brim with events. I honestly can’t wait until things slow down a little bit so I can sit around and do absolutely nothing. How have you been this past month?

It’s been hot lately in the Bay Area, and I’ve been wanting to share something new with you.

Have you ever had hojicha latte? It’s one of my favorite drinks of the moment.

If you’ve had the popular matcha latte, then you’ll definitely enjoy this. Both are types of green tea. Matcha powder is made of finely ground green tea. Hojicha powder is made of finely ground roasted green tea. While both taste amazing in lattes, hojicha does have a deeper caramelized flavor to it.

Whichever you decide is your go to summer drink, you can’t choose wrong. I love that these lattes are so simple to make with ingredients that you’ll already have on hand. You can easily make one for yourself in less than 5 minutes.

To make this hojicha latte, you’ll need hojicha powder, brown sugar, your favorite milk of choice, and crushed ice.

In a small jar, add the hojicha powder, brown sugar, and a little bit of the vanilla almond milk or soy milk. Whisk until the hojicha powder and sugar have dissolved into a paste and appears smooth. If there are clumps, the powder will later float to the top. Fill the rest of the jar with milk and stir to incorporate the hojicha paste. Top with crushed ice.

Serve the iced hojicha latte immediately cold.
